Top Tips You Need to Know from Hairstylist and Lash Tech Julia Cervone

I am sooo excited to be featuring Julia, my soon to be, sister-in-law, hairstylist, and lash tech on the blog today!

Julia does my lash extensions for me and I LOVE the work she does!

I got her on here to answer some questions about hair and everything you need to know about getting lash extensions.

If you have any further questions on the topic, feel free to leave a comment below or message me or Julia on social media.

Q: Tell us a little about you and your background and what made you want to go to beauty school and choose a career as a hairstylist and what made you want to become a certified lash and brow tech…

A:

My aunt was doing my hair for a long time. Ever since I was little, I loved going to get my hair done! I would even sweep the floor while I was there haha. Another reason I wanted to do hair was because I love making people feel beautiful! Also, I wasn’t going to have to go to college if I went to beauty school. That was a plus. 😂

For facial waxing, I was so into it right away because it’s so satisfying & looks pretty when done!

Lashes – I LOVE my lashes & will never get rid of them. A big reason why I wanted to do lashes was because I hate wearing makeup! I love how having lashes, you don’t feel like you need to wear any. For people that do love makeup, it’s great for them too because it accentuates everything! Doing lashes is also so satisfying because it takes 2 hours, & when you are done, it’s so rewarding seeing the beautiful results.

HAIR TALK

Q: What are a few of your favorite hair tips?

A:

1. use Monat hair care!!!!

2. don’t wash your hair every day

3. don’t box dye 🤪

Q: You’re always posting balayage hair you’ve done. Tell us more about the obsession and what hair types/colors it looks best on?

A: Any hair can rock balayage! Many people love balayage because it’s less upkeep than highlights. When it grows out, it still looks good because it has that faded look.

Other people like balayage because they just want a little pop of color without fully committing to a full head of highlights.

Q: How often do you recommend your clients wash their hair?

A: The less the better! I wash mine 2 times a week.

Q: What are your tips on how to wash your hair less?

A: Dry shampoo!! It will be hard at first to start washing your hair less because it’s not used to it. You just have to train your hair & you’ll be set!

Q: Think about one of your favorite hair clients and tell us why you look forward to her appointments with her?

A: I love catching up with my clients!! Especially old friends I don’t get to see often. This job is awesome because I get to talk & laugh with people all day!

Q: What’s one thing or a few things clients ask for that they’re normally unaware of that just don’t make any sense?

A: The first thing that came to my mind is when people ask, “Is a haircut & a trim the same price” YES hahaha. I’m still taking my time & cutting your hair, doing all the same steps. Just taking off less or more!

Q: What are some of the services you offer to clients?

A:

  1. Balayage
  2. Highlights
  3. Root touch up (cover up gray)
  4. Fun colors (pink blue etc)
  5. Formal styling
  6. Curl or straighten
  7. Haircuts
  8. Blowdry
  9. Lash extensions
  10. Facial waxing (lip or brow)

Q: What advice would you give someone who is looking to go platinum blonde?

A: It takes time. Usually, you can’t go from dark to light in just one step. If you do, your hair will feel very damaged & dry. If you take your time, it will be so worth it!

Q: What hair products do you use and why?

A: I use Monat shampoo & conditioner! It’s my favorite. I’ve been using it for almost 2 years now, & it’s completely changed my hair! It’s growing so much & is healthier than ever.

I use Moroccan oil dry shampoo. It works so well & I love the smell of it!

LET’S TALK LASH EXTENSIONS

Q: What are your tips for anyone who has never had lash extensions before, but are thinking about getting them?

A: If you are too nervous, I would start out with a classic set! You could always work your way to volume. Classic looks more natural 🙂

Q: What’re the three different types of lashes you can choose from and what are the differences?

A:

Classic – Natural

Hybrid – Mix of volume & classic. It gives you more volume without committing to full volume!

Volume – Fuller look

(Some of her lash extension work.)

Q: How should clients show up to their lash appts with you?

A: With their lashes clean!! Also if they come back with no lash extensions it will be considered a full set, not a refill.

Q: What’re some ways people are damaging their lash extensions that they may not even realize?

A: If they are too rough on them. When you wash your face, you need to be gentle!

Sometimes people sleep crazy without even realizing it, & it can cause the extensions to fall out sooner. Some people don’t even realize what they do in their sleep.🤦🏻‍♀️

Also if you don’t clean your lashes, that even damages them. Clean your lashes!!💗

Q: Can you wear mascara over lash extensions?

A: Yes. You shouldn’t need to though, but if you do, just make sure it’s non-waterproof!

Q: What are some lash products you recommend anyone with lash extensions use?

A: Bella lash cleanser

To wash my face I use Cetaphil. It doesn’t have any oil! You cannot use any products on your lashes w oil in it 🙂

Q: What’re your tips for your clients to prolong the work you’ve done until their next appointment?

A: Don’t try & do anything on yourself!

Try & upkeep your hair & lashes every couple weeks. Depends on how fast your hair grows 🙂

Q: Where can everyone reading this post find you and follow you online?

Thank you, Julia, for all of your advice + tips!

I personally get a nice hybrid lash because I tried classic at first just to be safe and decided I needed more.

After getting a nice hybrid fill, it felt like the perfect amount of lash.

I will probably never go with volume, but that’s just my personal preference.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did and I am looking forward to having her on the blog again in the future!
